Understanding

meine-liebe-300x300A little while ago we read the story about Babel from the Bible. We had just finished our tea and as we always read from the Holy Bible and pray to say thanks for the meal, this time we took a few minutes more to discuss what we just listened to.

Joris, our youngest, asked how it must have been for those people not to be able to understand each other anymore in a split second. I told him it presented a lot of arguments and fights about what to do with the tower but that it wasn’t the main pont of this story in the Bible. The confusion itself wasn’t so much the issue here, not listening and not wanting to understand God was what was happening. God said, spread over the entire world but instead they decided to build a tower and stay together.

We also have our own issues understanding God sometimes. But other than those people we can speak to God in our own language and He understands us and listens to all of us. And He gives us answers we can understand. And today at Pentecost we remember He gave us his Holy Spirit in our hearts so we belong to Him. And He also commanded us to tell the entire world about Him and his salvation.

His diciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke in a miraculous way so everyone on earth understood what they said. And we should do the same, speak about Him so everyone on earth will understand and know Him. Everyone, every nation, and in every language.

The Tower of Babel

“But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” ”

Genesis 11 verse 5 to 7 NIV

This is me, Leendert. I am a little bit old-fashioned and I love things from the past, old series like All Creatures Great And Small, mechanical wristwatches, bi-focal glasses and vinyl records for example. I am not keen on modern things and I often work on this old style model railway. I follow Jesus and sometimes write a poem about Him but I also write about my life. Eccentric. You can often find me in the kitchen at parties.
